Family of Woodstock
Helping with “Any Problem Under the Sun” Since 1970
In 1970 at a community meeting held to address the influx of young people from the Woodstock ’69 concert, a Wooodstock resident stood up and said, “Tell them to call me at 679-2485 and I will help them. And if I’m not home, I’ll have one of my friends there to make sure someone answers the call.” From those humble beginnings, Family of Woodstock was born. More than 50 years later, Family’s staff and volunteers are still answering that same phone number and have added more than two dozen programs to support our community neighbors throughout Ulster County.
Family of Woodstock is a non-profit that helps people with a number of social issues including homelessness, domestic violence, food insecurity, restorative justice, childcare, public assistance and document translations. The agency was founded on two main principles that guide the care we provide our clients:
- We will not judge you for what you’ve done
- We will not tell you what to do
Those principles create a trust that allows us to connect with clients and address their needs more fully. We offer clients emergency housing at six shelters, permanent housing we help secure for them, food through three regional pantries, counseling for adults and youth via our case management programs, and a host of other programs aimed at supporting clients as they create more sustainable and fulfilling lives. Over the decades Family of Woodstock has been operational, our staff and volunteers have assisted more than 100,000 people and with support from the community, we plan on helping with “any problem under the sun” for many years to come.
