We hope you are all doing well and ready for the 2020 Family of New Paltz Turkey Trot. As we strive for a healthier and safer community, rather than our traditional Thanksgiving Day run, we have made the difficult decision to move forward with a virtual run to be completed during the month of November instead. Runners from anywhere can participate this year using the RaceJoy app. Participants can choose their own route or continue to run the route we would normally use. The usual route will be downloaded on the app. Shirts will be offered and available for pickup at Family of New Paltz to anyone participating locally.
For the past 17 years, the Turkey Trot 5K fundraiser has provided us with financial assistance, which has enabled us to successfully operate our program. The funds raised through this event have been utilized for the food pantry, case management services, domestic violence services and adolescent services, including restorative justice services and pretty much “any problem under the sun.”

One feature on the app is that you will be able to obtain your own sponsors for the race. You can set this up through the RaceJoy app and collect donations for Family of New Paltz.
As the Turkey Trot typically brings in 1000 or more runners, we did not feel that it was safe currently to continue with a traditional event, although we hope to be able to host our traditional run in 2021. We may also continue to provide the option of a virtual run to those who are unable to attend on Thanksgiving Day.
We ask that you follow the appropriate safety guidelines at the time you run. We do not encourage large gatherings to run together, but still want you to make it fun. Run with your family and those who you have had close contact with during COVID-19.
