Community Party to Honor Michael Berg and Tommy Bell

Some people leave a job when they retire. Others leave behind a legacy.

On Sunday, August 23, a the Colony in Woodstock (12-4pm), Family of Woodstock will celebrate two remarkable individuals whose lives have been defined by service to the community and an unwavering commitment to helping others. After decades of dedication, Michael Berg and Tommy Bell are retiring, and the community is invited to join us in thanking them for everything they have given over the years.

Michael Berg’s connection to Family of Woodstock began in 1970, when he started as a volunteer. Ten years later, he became Executive Director, guiding the organization for more than four decades. Under his leadership, Family grew from a grassroots hotline into one of the Hudson Valley’s most respected human service organizations, serving tens of thousands of people each year through more than two dozen programs. Michael’s vision, humility, and steadfast belief that everyone deserves dignity and support have shaped not only the agency, but countless lives throughout the region.

Tommy Bell joined Family shortly afterward and became the person who quietly kept everything running. While his work often happened behind the scenes, his impact was felt every day. From maintaining buildings and responding to emergencies to ensuring programs had what they needed to serve the community, Tommy’s dedication helped create safe, welcoming spaces for thousands of people seeking help. His reliability, generosity, and willingness to do whatever was needed made him an indispensable part of the Family team.

This celebration is about more than retirement. It’s an opportunity for friends, colleagues, volunteers, community partners, and everyone whose life has been touched by Family of Woodstock to come together and express their gratitude. Whether you’ve known Michael and Tommy personally or simply appreciate the work Family has done in our community, this is a chance to celebrate two careers that have made an extraordinary difference.

Adding to the festivities is a special performance by The Alexis P. Suter Band, whose powerful blend of soulful blues, gospel, and rock promises an unforgettable afternoon of music. Their high-energy performance will provide the perfect soundtrack for a day filled with memories, appreciation, and celebration.

Tickets are just $25, with most of the proceeds benefiting Family of Woodstock and helping the organization continue its mission of providing compassionate, accessible services for people facing “any problem under the sun.”

We hope you’ll join us as we celebrate two extraordinary people whose lives have been dedicated to serving others. Come share your memories, reconnect with old friends, enjoy incredible live music, and help us honor Michael Berg and Tommy Bell for the lasting impact they have made on our community.
