Services for Youth & Adolescents

FAMILY Adolescent Services provides extensive case management to a broad array of youth and adolescents, ages 4-24 years, including those youth in the Ulster County jail, on probation, at risk of dropping out of school, or with significant substance abuse or mental health issues. FAMILY Adolescent Services also provides youth with extensive life and vocational skills training.

FAMILY runs two transitional living programs for homeless adolescents ages 16-20 years. Midway I and Midway II assist youth to advance or complete their education, gain life and vocational skills, address any long standing issues, and become employed while in the program. Midway I in Kingston and Midway II in Ellenville are each licensed for six adolescents and when necessary their own children.

We can help if you need a place to stay and if you need support setting out on your own. We can help you connect with substance abuse treatment or counseling for emotional issues. Our case managers work with families in trouble, with young people in the county jail, and with teens in foster care. Family has both residential and nonresidential programs. Whatever your situation may be, FAMILY can either provide you with the proper services or direct you to the right place.

At FAMILY you can also learn valuable life skills and improve your job readiness. All of our programs focus on building strengths—through education, parenting workshops and on-the-job learning opportunities.

Domestic Violence

FAMILY has developed a comprehensive approach to help families overcome the devastation caused by family violence. Washbourne House, a 17-bed facility for survivors of domestic violence, provides safety, crisis intervention, counseling, parenting and children’s programming, advocacy, case management, medical, legal and housing assistance.

Do you believe that you or someone you love is being abused? No one should have to experience domestic violence. Abuse, in any type of relationship, is never acceptable. FAMILY provides emergency shelter, food, clothing and counseling for all victims of family violence.

Safety is our first concern. Our skilled counselors help survivors sort out the challenges of taking control of their lives and their children’s lives. Our Advocate helps navigate the complexities of Family Court and Domestic Violence Court procedures.

If you are concerned about teen dating violence, you will find helpful information in the Just for Teens section of this website.

You can take steps to protect yourself or help someone else to safety. It is important to be prepared for taking this important step. Please read through the information on this website that has been gathered based on years of experience helping survivors of domestic violence.

If you are abusive, ending your behavior toward your spouse or other family members is the most important thing you can do right now. FAMILY’s Evolve program has helped hundreds of men change their abusive behaviors.

The FAMILY Shelter Program is committed to recognizing and responding to our community’s need for comprehensive, multicultural domestic violence services. We understand that domestic violence, in its fullest scope, impacts primary victims, other family members, society, and future generations. With this in mind, it is our goal to stop the cycle of violence by providing crisis intervention, emergency shelter, advocacy, counseling, and prevention education.

Are you running low on food? FAMILY operates Emergency Food Pantries in Woodstock, New Paltz, and Ellenville. We know how hard it can be to balance unexpected bills or just stretch out your resources through the whole month. Whenever possible, we provide enough food for your family for three to four days.

Do you need a place to stay? Call any of our hotline numbers. FAMILY has emergency housing for individuals and families at our recently renovated Darmstadt Shelter and FAMILY Inn in Kingston. During the day, a referral from the Department of Social Services is required. After hours and on weekends, FAMILY uses federal emergency funds, when available, to provide a single night’s stay in an area motel.

Are you out of fuel for cooking or heating?  During the winter months, call any FAMILY hotline number to access emergency fuel to get you through the night or weekend. If you need help paying your fuel bills, a Family Case Manager can help you gain control over your budget, receive benefits you may be eligible for, and help you advocate for a payment plan.

Do you need clothes or household items? There is an endless supply of quality clothing, cooking items, and even furniture available through FAMILY’s Walk-In Centers. Stop by and have a look or check the “Donations” book for furniture items offered for pickup.

Donations of unopened food items are always welcome. We also use your cash donations to purchase perishables and other items to keep the Food Pantries stocked with a variety of foods. Holiday donations of food and gifts are a great way to share the holiday spirit (check out the Donate To FAMILY section of this website)!

Have items you’d like to donate? Great, but please call first. Each of our centers has limited space!
