Using Racial Socialization Strategies to Help Black Youth Cope with Racialized Stressors
Thursday, January 14th, 2021 | 12-1PM
Presented by:Dr. Riana Elyse Anderson
1 Continuing Education Contact Hour Available for Licensed Social Workers and Licensed Mental Health Counselors**

This webinar will share the core competencies of racial socialization as a communication strategy to support youth of color to gain coping strategies for racially specific stressors.
For youth and adults of color, prolonged exposure to racial discrimination may result in debilitating psychological, behavioral, and health outcomes. To help children prepare for and prevent the deleterious consequences of discrimination, many parents of color utilize racial socialization, or communications about race or race-related experiences. Given the racial justice movement’s heightened awareness to discrimination plaguing Black communities, better understanding of how racial socialization processes and skills development can help youth and parents heal from the effects of past, current, and future racial trauma is important. Dr. Anderson will share the core competencies of racial socialization as a communication strategy to support youth of color to gain coping strategies for racially specific stressors. She will share approaches and present stories of improved outcomes with youth and families.
