Film Screening |”Women Helping Women”
The History of Family of Woodstock’s Pioneering Efforts to Heal Domestic Violence
Prior to 1980, the Hudson Valley did not have a domestic violence shelter. Enter a dedicated group of mostly women who, working with Family of Woodstock, created the Washbourne House.
On October 29, we will premiere the film “Women Helping Women” in which several of pioneering women describe the situations that motivated them to act and open the shelter. Created by former Family of Woodstock Board Member Ken McCarthy and told mostly via virtual video interviews, the film spotlights how dire situations were for women with nowhere to turn for help and how the Washbourne House offered a respite from a life of anxiety and fear.
More than 40 years later, the shelter still offers housing and services to women and their children while helping them build a new life. For more about the Washbourne House, visit Washbourne House.
We invite you to join us for this special screening which will be followed by a panel discussion about the issues still facing domestic violence survivors today.
