In recognition of V Day, the global movement to end violence against women inspired by Eve Ensler’s play The Vagina Monologues, Family Domestic Violence Services will be creating a show of Vagina Quilts.
Art is one of the most powerful forms of expression possible.
We hope to channel that power into our upcoming V Day event with amazing textile creations about that thing that no one likes to say… that thing we just don’t talk about… that amazing, wonderful, life giving force… the Vagina!
Inspired by the talented quilters of Ukiah California featured in Eve Ensler’s film Until the Violence Stops we hope to create a collection of Vagina Quilts and show them in February 2012.
We are requesting submissions from area textile artists and want to provide ample time for people to create their own fabulous interpretations of vaginas.
We will not limit the collection to traditional quilts alone. We are happy to include any textile art that can be hung on a dowel. You can knit, crochet, weave, and embroider; the possibilities for these vaginas are endless!
Our maximum size limit will be 3’ x3’
Artists can submit pieces to be used in three different ways:
1. You can submit a piece for the February show only
2. You can submit a piece to be shown and become part of Family DV Services Vagina Quilt Collection
3. You can submit a piece to show and auction off to raise funds for Family DV Services programs
If interested in participating please contact Emily Trotter-Bodie
